Lilian Charlotte Anne Knowles, 1870-1926, (nee Tomn) was born in Truro and educated at Truro High School, on the continent, and at Girton College Cambridge. At Cambridge she took a History Tripos, First Class in 1894 and a Law Tripos (Part 1), First Class in 1894. She also obtained a Litt.D from Trinity College, Dublin in 1906.
